Kent Springer purchased his truck in July 2016 from Stuteville Chevrolet in Durant, Oklahoma. Shortly after, he received a call from Rolling Big Power (RBP) asking if he would be interested in building a SEMA truck. After Kent picked his jaw up off the floor, he was put in contact with the “Truck Guru,” Cris Payne. He was beyond excited about joining with RBP and many other great companies to build a truck that would represent SEMA and the truck world. “When I was young, my dad asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up. He then proceeded to tell me to find what I loved, and he dared me to make a living at it. So, I have now been in business for 11 years building trucks, detailing, tinting window, spraying bedliners and [installing] car audio. To have the opportunity to build this truck for SEMA 2016 with Truck Guru and the wonderful people at Bodyguard Bumpers has been the greatest opportunity of my professional career, and the 10-year-old version of myself smiles every time I put the key in the ignition of the big, red Chevy diesel.”

The truck was passionately built by Kent and his crew at K&D Customs. It took roughly three weeks and was finished at midnight before he left for SEMA. After working until 6 p.m. taking care of the shop’s customers, the crew at K&D Customs—Dereck Vanderveen, Francisco Vega, Seth Flint, Cody Nichols, Zack Wood, Jacob Anderson, and Collin McDaniel—then worked until midnight building the truck. McGaughy’s awarded Kent’s Chevy Best Lifted Truck at SEMA 2016.

There’s no denying Kent’s brilliant red truck really pops in the sea of black, white, and gray trucks that dominate today’s scene. Since aftermarket parts don’t magically color-match themselves to a red truck, Brothers Rods and Customs lathered bucketfuls of red onto the bumpers, several suspension components, door handles, air horn tank, mirrors, and Mag-Hytec covers. BA’s Powder Coating & Media Blasting added to the red wow factor with powdercoating.
You might find it surprising that Kent’s favorite part of the Chevy is the hidden Diamond Audio speakers attached to the underbody. “I wanted to find a way to stand out, and we love it. With an amp inside the truck, we can control the music with the sPod panel in the headliner. With just the flip of a switch, whatever you’re listening to inside the cab is now playing as loudly as you want outside the truck; it’s very much a head-turner.”

Post-SEMA, the truck is the centerpiece of K&D Customs, showcasing the company’s workmanship, and Kent looks forward to continuing to grow his aftermarket car and truck business. Occasionally, the show truck is used as a farm truck. Kent’s wife and 2-year-old son drive it out to the pasture to feed cows. You can also find Kent traveling around the country to various truck shows and parades, including Turkey Drag, Lonestar Throwdown, and Scrapin the Coast.
