2000 Toyota Tacoma- Purplexed
A father-daughter bond
They say one of the strongest bonds a man can have is with his daughter. There is nothing in the world more special than Tony King’s love for his daughter, Abigal. His friends Jerry and Justin in the small town of Dayton, Tennessee first introduced Tony of El Dorado, Arkansas, to the truck culture back in ’00. It took a long time before he actually delved into the scene, but for many years, he was in awe of the trucks with tilt beds and booming systems.
He finally bought his first truck, but then joined the U.S. Army and ended up selling it. After returning from the service, he moved to El Dorado and his daughter Abigal was born. At that point, he was looking to build a special bond with Abby and chose to start a truck build with her. He found a ’00 Toyota Tacoma on a website and had it delivered to his house sight unseen. Once the truck arrived, Tony tore it down to the frame and started the bodywork and suspension.
He sent the Toyota to his friend Danny Mitchell for a custom paintjob, a bright orange color. As time went by, Tony discovered that a bodydrop was the way to go. After a failed attempt by a shop he was paying to do the work, Tony brought the Tacoma back home. He and his friends Tommy and Ben added the stock floor body drop in his garage.
One year later, Tony decided it was time for a change and had Quincy Jones of Avo’s Paint and Body recoat the mini in a custom purple. The entire interior was next, a custom blend of vinyl and mocha ostrich done by his friend Ricky Bullock, also in El Dorado. It made sure the new cabin would stand out and be comfortable for rides with his daughter. They installed a fully custom stereo system, along with a tilt bed to give Tony a touch of the nostalgia he had as a child attending truck shows.
Tony started the Tacoma transformation when Abby was only 3 years old. After three years of building with her father, she now loves riding in the truck everywhere she can go. They travel together to every show the Tacoma can make it to, and she is very involved in the culture. “I’m raising my daughter to love this scene the way I always have,” Tony says. “She made this build the best it could be.” Purplexed has made the relationship stronger and brought a new generation to the truck community.
