Busted Knuckles- 1993 GMC Sonoma- Gifted

If Only It Came With a Bow

David Pennington, Jr. wasn’t into custom trucks until his brother Tim received an ’86 Chevy S10 for his 14th birthday. Then Tim started saving money and buying custom parts for his new truck. “Once I saw what he was doing, I started to get involved,” David tells Truckin. “Even though he’s my younger brother, I was learning from him.”

When David turned 16, it was his turn. His parents got him a ’91 Chevy S10 4x4. At the risk of sounding ungrateful, David never really felt the body style of his truck stood out the way he wanted it to. After a couple of years, he sold the S10 and found a ’93 GMC Sonoma at a local car lot and purchased it for himself. The major difference between the two was trim package, but the GMC had higher-end options, with the interior and painted front and rear bumpers instead of Chevy chrome.

The very first thing David did was bring the Sonoma to the ground. He enlisted Phil Fowler of Drop Werks in Newark, Delaware, for the suspension work. David and his friend Matt brought the GMC to a friend’s house, where they shaved the handles, gave the GMC suicide doors, and added Cadillac Deville brake lights and a roll pan.

David enjoyed the progress for a while, until he met Eric from Little Shop and inquired about a body drop. The Sonoma was brought to the shop, where Eric and his talented crew built the 2x3 box tubing, body dropped the GMC, and added Accuair E-level. The next step was transforming the motor from the stock 4.3L V-6 to an ’04 Pontiac GTO motor. An ’04 Chevy Colorado front end was added to the Sonoma to give it an updated new look. For the interior, Eric installed a ’59 Chevy dashboard to add some creativity to the cabin.

Although David has more to complete, he wishes to thank his loving parents for their generous gift to him and his brother. He wishes to thank his brother for initiating the passion that he now has for trucks. A special thanks to Eric and his dedicated crew at Little Shop Mfg. Thank you to Dave at After Hours Fab for all his hard work, and lastly to his Relaxed Atmosphere family for always being there with a helping hand.
