Not many would have the guts, huevos, or gusto to take a brand-new, top-of-the-line ’15 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali truck from the dealership and install a massive lift, complete with 26-inch forged wheels and 40-inch-tall mud tires—let alone a complete matte black repaint. But John Mikalik III, better known as Mik, and the crew at Elite Customs in Sparks, Nevada, took that challenge. Oh, and they also extended the cab of the brand-spanking-new truck and shortened the bed for a mega-cab model GM never offered from the factory!
The nickname “Maddmax” came from not only the sinister dark and mean look the truck would have when finished but from those who said Mik and the rest of the crew were “mad” for cutting up and extending a brand-new truck and taking on such a build in less than 6 months. It all started with the idea and concept rendering by KEG Media. The goal was to offer up a mega-cab GMC Sierra with more comfort and room for Mik’s growing family. The cab was extended behind the rear doors, and the bed was shortened to compensate. The fuel filler was relocated to the inside of the bed for a cleaner look and to accommodate the new bed length. Elite Customs then sprayed the truck inside and out in Spies Hecker Matte Black paint before the body was outfitted with new lights, Fusion bumpers, and a spiked grille.

But having a big, bold body on a puny suspension and wheels would be like Arnold skipping leg day. So, a massive Cognito Motorsports Stage 2 lift with Fox shocks and Kelderman airbags in the rear was powdercoated and installed to holster the massive 26x16 Specialty Forged wheels encased in 40-inch-tall Fuel Off-Road Mud Gripper M/T tires. As the truck is a higher-end Denali from the factory, the interior was upgraded with luxury in mind. The rear seat was swapped for those out of a Yukon, allowing them to recline thanks to the extended cab. Behind those seats sits an Alpine subwoofer enclosure hooked up to the factory touchscreen head unit. The seats were then covered in Alea black leather before being stitched with the “Maddmax” logo.

The truck was finished up just before its debut at the SEMA show. The bigger, bolder, badder philosophy of the Maddmax build could have pushed the truck a bit over the top. But the perfectly executed finished product ensures the goal of building a bold yet clean truck was accomplished, and the challenge of extending the cab of a brand-new truck while retaining factory lines was accomplished.
