2018 Ford Expedition- Concours De Expedition

CGS Performance Products Elevates This Expedition to Higher Elegance

It’s difficult for a passionate car builder to see the end of any project. Not solely because of issues that might arise, but due to the inevitable ideas and desires that emerge in the process. Ingenious builders oftentimes find cool ways to improve upon and customize projects, even when the vehicle seems perfect from the get-go. Casey Scranton of CGS Performance Products is one of those builders; he can make an already-lavish car even more lush.
Casey and CGS Performance Products aren’t strangers to the world of customization nor are they to Truckin magazine. Casey’s team has built countless vehicles, including 40-plus magazine-quality rigs, with at least 10 gracing the cover of Truckin at some point. Their incredible efforts and quality products have unequivocally gained them popularity and the trust of many, including Ford Motor Company, which has commissioned a build from CGS Performance Products almost every year since the late ’90s.

On this occasion, the CGS crew received an ’18 Ford Expedition Max. This fullsize SUV is one beautiful machine, with enough room to fit eight and sufficient luxury to provide gratifying comfort with every ride. Needless to say, this SUV is pretty nice as it stands, but Ford wanted to see what else could be done with the use of aftermarket products. CGS Performance Products stepped up and modified this truck in a way that may even influence Ford’s future assemblies.
To begin this build, the crew at CGS lowered the Expedition by 2 inches (front and rear) using Crown Suspension’s lowering springs. Bringing it to a stop are Sparta six-piston brakes with appealing Sparta 15-inch rotors. Connecting it to the pavement are 24x10 Savini forged wheels wrapped in General Tire rubber. To increase the elegance of the already-glamorous wheels, a Cerakote ceramic coating was applied.

Inside the engine compartment, the capable 3.5L EcoBoost engine remains. This particular year possesses the most powerful Expedition engine yet, producing 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. To improve breathing and add some flair, a Whipple cold-air intake and Whipple intercooler were integrated. A JET Performance module was added to optimize performance. A CGS stainless-steel cat-back exhaust replaces the stock exhaust for more grumble and better push.

The suspension and engine received some upgrades that certainly give the car more power, looks, and handling, but the exterior touches are what really make this Expedition pop. Although not radical, the modifications do make a big push in the direction of elegance, and they start with a paintjob by Andy Meeh of Flyin’ Iron Designs. The CGS team did not go for an extreme paint scheme; instead, they opted for a luxurious Axalta Super Jet Black paint. Up front, they stripped a huge portion of the hood down to the bare aluminum, which accentuates the hood lines and gives the front end a unique look. Running along the sides, a glistening stripe was applied with paint composed of crushed glass. This type of paint delivers a unique glittering effect. We don’t believe anybody would deny the fact that these modifications make this Expedition more luxurious. Moving inside the already-plush interior, the next level was achieved by adding a one-off suede-and-leather combo from Alea Leather, a set of mats from Lloyd Mats, Ford Accessory Dual Headrest DVD by Invision, and window tint.

Ford described this Expedition as, “For those who do more with more. Always unstoppable.” Casey and CGS Performance Products produced a phenomenal SUV that deserves all the limelight it’ll get. They really did achieve that higher level of elegance. You might come across this build one day when Ford displays it at its booth at auto shows across the nation.
