After months of planning and parts gathering, Truckin Magazine finally began its first Week to Wicked this morning at the crack of dawn. We’re starting with a bone stock, albeit nicely equipped 2017 Chevrolet Silverado Z-71 6.2L and transforming it over the course of a week with cool parts from all across the custom truck aftermarket.

We decided to start with the two biggest ticket items of the build right away: the Magnuson TVS2300 supercharger and the Superlift 8-inch lift with King coilover shocks. Actually, we were only scheduled for the supercharger install today, but we knocked out the complete Magnuson kit in about four hours. This was due in no small part to the added hands and considerable expertise Of Mike Sitar and Grant Terry of Magnuson. By the time our crew had the front end and intake parts off of the truck, we already had a lesson on the components of the kit and had pulled the initial info from the truck to create a custom tune for the truck later. From there, we hardly got a chance for any witty banter or flying tools because the install really did go that smoothly. That includes the supercharger itself, the cooler and all the lines, the new intake and PCV connections, and all the electronics- in four hours! The already stout 6.2L Silverado puts over 400 ponies to the pavement right from Detroit, but with the addition of the Magnuson 2300 (that’s 2.3 liters) running a mild boost and tune, power will be increased by about 30%, and that number will be well into the 500s!

Since we had some extra time in the afternoon, and had 4 Wheel & off-Road Editor and all-around 4WD expert Christian Hazel on hand, we dove right into tearing down the stock suspension in preparation for the Superlift Suspension 8-inch lift we will be installing tomorrow. In addition to that, we will be regearing the truck with the help of Nitro Gear & Axle- a 4.30:1 ring and pinion, to be exact, to help transfer all of our new found power through the 37-inch tires and onto the street.
We’re just getting warmed up over here, so check back with us tomorrow and the rest of the week. Also be sure to check out our live videos and up to the minute updates on our social media channels: facebook.com/truckinmag, Instagram.com/truckinmagazine. And check out Truckin Magazine on the newsstands or in your mailbox for the full feature once we complete our Week to Wicked Z-71 Silverado.
