2016 Ram 3500 Megacab- Fool’s Gold

Striking It Rich on the Florida Coast

Pyrite—or fool’s gold, as it’s more commonly known—is a mineral with a superficial resemblance to gold. Today, pyrite is sometimes sold in the form of novelty items or costume jewelry, but it isn’t entirely useless. In fact, it’s a good way to find real gold, because the two form together under similar conditions. Patrick Breen may have struck gold on his latest build, but it took him a while to get there. Patrick was born and raised on the west coast of Florida, Fort Myers to be exact, and when he turned 15 his father bought him a Toyota 4Runner, which he maintained and drove for the next two years. At 17, it was time to break out and get more creative.

He purchased a Lexus, and that’s where his touch for customizing began. “It was lowered and had some wheels on it,” Patrick tells Truckin, “but it really opened my eyes to a new world of flashy vehicles.” A year later, Patrick got into a new hobby, motorcycles—until his son Emmett was born and he needed something more family friendly. He found and purchased his first truck, a Chevy 1500, but his wife favored the Dodge brand and made sure to give him friendly reminders of her preference.
In early 2017, Patrick decided to elevate his custom truck game and give in to his wife’s wishes. He purchased a brand-new ’16 Ram 3500 Limited Mega Cab dualie from the dealership. His goal was to make his new truck SEMA worthy and exceed all prior expectations of his goals. As any dualie owner knows, the first step is to have it tuned and deleted to get better mileage and be more responsive. The next step was color matching everything on the truck to make it uniform. The headlights and taillights were even upgraded and painted to match.

Once the body of the dualie was built to Patrick’s taste, the Ram was brought over to Robert Pigue at Plan B Fab in Orlando, Florida, for the heavy lifting. Using Plan B parts, Robert and his crew used the next two weeks to strip off the stock suspension and install a custom-designed and fabricated suspension. Outkast Customz handled all the powdercoating. Efficient Lighting Supply added its expertise by adding wireless rock lights to display the new suspension in low-light situations.
Patrick proudly displayed the finished Ram at SEMA and wishes to thank his beautiful wife, Amanda, for her support throughout the entire build. Special thanks go to his parents and friends for the transport assistance and for their support in Vegas during the weeklong event. Fool’s Gold is going to be tough to top when Patrick decides to start his next build, but for now, he wants to enjoy his flawless Plan B collaboration in the beautiful Florida sun.
