Owner: David Keyser
Hometown: Roxboro, North Carolina
Engine: 7.3L Power Stroke V-8
Transmission: E4OD four-speed automatic
Odometer: 162,000 miles
Fuel Economy: 16 city/21 highway mpg
Modifications: TS Performance 6-position chip, custom S&B Filters cold-air intake, 3-inch downpipe to 4-inch exhaust with 6-inch tip, custom traction bars, E-fuel
Owner says: “It is my first truck and I got it from an older man in Florida that took amazing care of it. I worked hard all through school trying to make it reflect more of myself. I put Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels Classic III wheels on it with 305/70R16 Nitto Tire Terra Grappler tires. The traction bars are from an ’06 GM pickup that I reworked to fit my truck. I installed new headlights, grille, bed cover, tinted the windows, and replaced every light with LEDs. My future plans are to add Stage 1.5 injectors and a DieselSite Wicked Wheel in the turbocharger, while continuing to drive it everyday.”

These cars are used all over the world as taxis, and the 240D holds the world record for the most miles on a passenger car at 3 million miles. The car that made this record is a 240D taxi in Pakistan.”

I haven’t had to replace or rebuild anything major on it so far. I’m working on an ’81 Ford F-150 that will have a 3.8L Cummins engine.”

Owner says: “I always love seeing other people’s rides in Diesel Power’s Readers’ Diesels section. When I purchased the truck, it was bone stock, and I have since added aftermarket parts to wake the old girl up but kept it extremely reliable. It has every maintenance record in a book since it was purchased new on March 22, 1996. It routinely gets me back and forth from Texas every month. Minnesota snow is not a problem for this truck, and the neighbors love the exhaust. I don’t drive the truck hard, but it’s not a trailer queen. When put to work, it gets the job done.”

He gave me the truck and we spent a lot of time out in the driveway building this thing. We did everything ourselves other than the paint. It’s been a long adventure, but I still plan on doing more. I can’t wait to see how it eventually turns out when it’s exactly how I want it. I’m more than pleased with it.”
