2013 Dodge Ram- Project Envy

Childhood Dreams Become Reality

Phil Gordon
Sep 25, 2019
One of the biggest motivational statements you can tell yourself is to never give up. No matter how hard it is, always keep pushing forward until you reach your dreams. For Doug Brantley, of Atlanta, Texas, his dream started as a child. "I had all these Hot Wheels trucks scattered around my room," Doug tells Truckin, "Each one of them I painted with a different color and style." At that point he hadn't realize that trucks would be in his future but he knew that creative spark was always there.
When Doug turned fifteen, he purchased his first vehicle, a classic Mustang, and sent it off to a paint shop. Unimpressed with the quality of work done by the shop, he decided to utilize the skills he had and paint it himself. The confidence he got from painting his first vehicle all by himself led him to start taking jobs painting his friends' vehicles. In college he took an Auto Body class to gain even more knowledge and expertise.

While painting on the side, Doug was employed at a local car dealership tinting windows and handling small upgrades for their add-on sales. Walking through the lot one morning he found a 2013 Dodge Ram Longhorn that he just fell in love with. He made arrangements to take the beauty home and decided to put some of his custom touches on the Ram. Six months later, Doug was fortunate enough to open his own custom shop that he named DB Customs.
He wanted to utilize the new Dodge as a billboard for his up and coming company so he ordered a Kelderman air-ride suspension and sent it off to Adam at Texarkana Powder Coating to coat the entire suspension and lift in bright Shocker Yellow that once baked gives a green tint. Once back in his shop, Doug installed the E-Level and lift components himself. His wife, Tricia, even got involved by painting the frame of the Ram.

Doug contacted the hardworking crew at American Force Wheels about picking a wheel that would complement the style of the fresh built Dodge. Nick Chin, of American Force Wheels, and Doug went over different styles before settling on a set of 24-inch American Force Edge wheels. Doug sent over the powdercoat color so they could match the exact color onto the wheels. Tex McDorman of TexFX met with Doug and hand striped each wheel with the same color combination.

Project Envy was debuted at SEMA in the American Force Booth and had overwhelming attention. Doug wishes to thank his beautiful wife, Tricia, for all her help and support with the Ram making it even better with all the details. Project Ram has allowed Doug to meet some of the most amazing and interesting people as well as travel throughout the country in the lifted Dodge. His rolling billboard even had passing vehicles stop by his shop just to take pictures. From a dream as a child, he has completely met his expectations and plans to create even more envy by success.
