2012 Ram 2500 Mega Cab - Perfect Diamond

This ’12 Ram Mega Cab is a Cut Above the Rest

Here at 8-Lug, we’re in the business of showing off the sickest HD truck projects we can put our hands on, and you guys ’n’ gals are in the business of raising the bar, year by year, on these custom builds. Bandon Joslin, owner of this ’12 Ram 2500 Mega Cab, knows this all too well, as this isn’t his first time getting a truck featured. In fact, it’s not even his first cover truck. He does, however, claim that this “man-sized truck” (our words) is his favorite, which is a favorable declaration if one expects to land the cover. After all, how could it not be? It’s got all the bells and whistles required to be competitive in the lifted truck industry and, quite frankly, you had us at Mega Cab. Although this rig is prominent by nature of its size and demanding of full attention to pilot (watch out Mustangs), Brandon says “something about this truck just eases your mind. It’s relaxing to drive.”

Having explored the awesome world of custom truck building, Brandon developed a desire for something different—for a diesel truck—several years ago, intending a buildup that was mild, comfortable, and practical to drive. He did his homework and settled on the Ram Mega Cab as the right tool for the job. All was well until his search to find said Mega Cab, optioned as he wanted and in a white shade, came up empty. As luck should have it, and as Brandon soon discovered, the perfect truck happened to be waiting patiently at a local Mini Cooper used car lot, of all places. That’s right—some guy drove in with a Mega Cab and left with a Mini. There’s a lot to say about that, but we’ll refrain…

Here’s why the build went from mild to wild. Shortly after Brandon bought the Ram, his four-year-old daughter, Rorie, was diagnosed with a type of pediatric leukemia that was very rare and required chemo/radiation treatments. Rorie always loved watching her dad work on his trucks in the garage. In fact, both of his daughters did. You can imagine the tiny helpers’ squeals of delight as they supervised the various truck projects—and the bonds formed as the hours passed in the garage. Even when Rorie wasn’t feeling well, she would still bundle up and hang out with her dad. The sidelining of Brandon’s biggest fan took priority in his life and eventually kept him out of the garage for several months. A few days after her Rorie’s fifth birthday, she lost her battle with cancer. Although the coolest truck in the world could in no way console a father or lessen the despair during such a time, Brandon regrouped and decided to finish building the truck in her honor. The result? Something Rorie would certainly be proud of.

We’d spend way too much time looking in the rearview mirror if this were the sight. A Hammerhead Armor front bumper contains LED foglight pods and a Warn Zeon 12 Platinum winch surrounded by tantalizing Monster hooks. The industrious look is completed by a T-Rex billet grille. Did you catch the LED lightbar underneath the bumper, where the front suspension is?

Brandon may admit to mall crawlin’ and parking-lot pimpin’ with his Ram, but a Bedslide 1000 shows that no matter what, his HD truck is ready to carry stuff under the security of a Retrax bedcover.

The hard-working 6.7L Cummins diesel powerplant reminds Brandon that heavy-duty replacement truck parts come with a beefier price tag than the parts found on lighter, smaller trucks.

Check out those wheel lips—this custom detail is something we don’t see too often. The 22-inch American Force Shift SS8 wheels have been wrapped with matching graphics.

What do those wild graffiti-style graphics on the sides of the truck say? This should be a pretty good clue…

With the stock suspension getting kicked to the curb, Brandon opted for a McGaughys 8-inch long-arm kit with a dual front Fox 2.0 shock setup. The color-matched radius arms and rear traction bars complement the overall look.

With all that rolling mass, you’ve got to keep the path well lit. An sPOD controls this roof-mounted 50-inch LED lightbar, as well as a 40-inch bar, foglights, and bed lighting.
