AddArmor’s Bulletproof Cadillac XT6
Is this the world’s safest crossover?
Armored vehicles have to be big, heavy, and slow right? Not so, says the armored vehicle upfitters at AddArmor, who just introduced their latest creation. Based off of a 2020 Cadillac XT6 CUV, AddArmor has transformed this once luxury family hauler into a mobile saferoom of sorts.
Starting with a factory stock Cadillac XT6, the company then adds its $28,000 Anti-Intrusion package, bringing the cost of vehicle and upfitting to roughly $86,000. Of course, this price can go up depending on options. With the AddArmor Anti-Intrusion package comes a bevy of defenses aimed toward preventing attack from would-be adversaries. The company starts by replacing the vehicle's windows with bullet-resistant, shatterproof, ballistic glass. Additionally, AddArmor beefs up the Cadillac's doors and rear hatch with ballistic protection panels. These panels are made of an ultra-light synthetic laminated material that is 60 percent lighter and 10 times stronger than ballistic steel. The vehicle also incorporates run-flat tires, which can be driven on at up to 50 mph even after losing air pressure.
"The idea behind adding armor is to create a mobile saferoom that protects the vehicle's passengers from would-be attackers (e.g. criminals, terrorists, active shooters) while also providing peace of mind that cannot be attained in an unarmored vehicle," explains Special Operations veteran and AddArmor CEO, Pete Blaber.
Of course, this is just the basic package. If you're in need of more protection, or just want to feel like James Bond, AddArmor has you covered. The company can outfit nearly any vehicle with some pretty extreme countermeasures. In addition to ballistic glass and panels, the company offers hidden pepper spray dispensers, electric shock door handles, sound cannon, night vision, hidden gun ports, active mine detection, barricade-busting bumpers, and the ability to deploy a smoke screen. Aside from personal protection, the company's builds are used worldwide for executive protection, government dignitaries, and much more.
The company has outfitted all types of vehicles, from Ford Raptor pickups to Tesla Model S sedans and everything in between. While the basic Anti-Intrusion package starts at just $28,000 (you bring the vehicle), the cost of more advanced packages is quoted on a case-by-case basis. So, the old adage stands if you need to ask, you probably can't afford it.
