2015 GMC Canyon

Base Price: $21,000*

Body Type: Midsize

ALL-NEW: The GMC Canyon nameplates return next year in the form of a revamped midsize truck that’s already on sale overseas. A 2.5L I-4 and 3.6L V-6 are available at launch, with a diesel promised for the 2016 model year. Whereas the Colorado has a more swept-back, "import"-looking front end, the 2015 Canyon's nose is a virtual dead-ringer for big brother Sierra, just scaled down slightly. Aside from the grille, hood, and front fenders, the two trucks share most of their sheetmetal, with the door, roof, and bed stampings essentially identical.

Look For: Cool features could bring small pickups back into style.

Sum Up: Look out, Toyota -- the Canyon returns

2014 Honda Ridgeline

Base Price: $30,405-$38,335

Body Type: Midsize

UNCHANGED: Nearly a decade ago, the Ridgeline became the 2006 Motor Trend Truck of the Year. Since then, not much has changed with Honda’s unibody, four-door truck. A Variable Torque Management AWD system remains standard, as does a 3.5L V-6 and five-speed automatic. A Sport variant, fitted with black 18-inch wheels, a black honeycomb grille, and black headlamp and taillight housings, brought some freshness to the lineup in 2012. Honda has committed to building a next-generation Ridgeline -- see the teaser sketch HERE. Read our last test on the 2014 Honda Ridgeline.

Best Buy: With its 18-inch wheels and blackout trim, the Sport.

Sum Up: Still awkward-looking, still excellent.
