The RV industry is intent on bringing you to the great outdoors with all the comforts of home and continues to develop recreational vehicles that are more residential in ambiance than ever before. Many larger motorhomes and fifth wheels have a washer/dryer, a dishwasher, and perhaps a fireplace--at least one company builds a trailer with two fireplaces available.

In case your adventure equipment won't fit in your truck, many companies offer a toy box, which provides a camper or trailer setup in the front and a garage in the rear, which may or may not be walled off from the living area. Travel Supreme makes a mid-engine motorhome with a similar garage big enough for a subcompact car, and camper specialist Lance has set a new benchmark in truck-bed room.

There's also increased specialization, including inexpensive travel trailers nice enough inside that they have to focus on getting you back outside by providing outdoor sinks, barbecues, coolers, tables, and a large outdoor closet for bikes or hunting gear. Dodge's Sprinter chassis is quickly becoming the standard-bearer for Class B motorhomes, and Class Cs include the majority of entry-level motorized units, some expensive units for those downsizing from Class As, and some based on real trucks.

From handy to handmade, there's a trailer or motorhome for every budget, although as trailers get bigger they get heavier, so make sure you weigh everything yourself and have an appropriately sized truck.

Spartan Motors introduced a top-line chassis powered by a Cummins ISX engine: 525 horsepower and 1650 (soon to be more than 1850) pound-feet of torque. But its Competitor concept chassis, an entry-level pusher with a 6.0-liter Power Stroke and five-speed automatic that should compete against the Workhorse W24 (8100 Vortec) may prove more significant.

Though SunnyBrook is a small company, its first toy box--the Titan 391 SUT--is a sizable piece, with a completely separate garage. A good floorplan and assembly make a comfortable haven after a hard day recreating, but you'll need a stout dualie or a medium-duty to do it justice.
