Women and the Trucks that Drive Them

What a Girl Wants, What a Girl Needs
Earlier I mentioned that I drove three different 2004 pickups: the Ram, F-150, and Titan. My favorite truck, however, is the Titan. I like the instrumentation (especially the navigation system), the maneuverability, the incredibly comfortable driver's seat, spacious rear seating, and the cool factor. On my first venture out, I got a thumbs-up and a nod from a guy who obviously thought the truck was cool, too. That's never happened in my Suburban.

When it comes to trucks, there's something to be said for the curiosity element. It goes like this: People first check out the back of the truck and ask themselves, "What's in back?" Then, "Who's up front?" There's a natural curiosity and propensity to want to pair items. It's a mental matching game to see if the driver they imagined matches the real one. Because trucks are perceived as a guy thing, it's still intriguing if the driver is a woman.

So what could be said about women who drive trucks? What do they have in common? Of course, this isn't statistical research, but I'll offer my insights. First, these women don't just like their trucks; they love them. These vehicles let them do the things they're passionate about. They drive trucks with purpose in mind. They use their trucks to do what they love most, be it horticulture, home improvement, or riding horses.

Not too long ago, driving a truck meant the number of people that could ride with you was limited. Not so with today's new pickups. Women are social beings. Every woman interviewed expressed the desire to bring along family and friends as one of the most important factors in truck selection. Larger, more spacious interiors and easy four- door access makes that wish come true.

Okay, now to the real question: Do women carry tissues in their truck? Sure enough, every one of them had a box or packet of tissue. How about a special Kleenex cubby in trucks? You laugh, but coin- and cupholders had to start somewhere.
