The ATR is the newest member of Pirelli's Scorpion line of light-truck tires. Replacing the Scorpion A/T, the ATR was created to provide off-road grip and durability but still have on-road comfort and control. To create all-terrain capability without sacrificing quiet, Pirelli uses sweeping curved grooves, using small sipes to reduce noise. It's available in 31 sizes, for 15- to 24-inch wheels. Hankook's newest for trucks and SUVs is an all-season radial available in 14 sizes ranging from 17 to 22 inches. The tread pattern uses six circumferential grooves that allow water to escape, the open shoulder of the tread helps evacuate slush, and the rubber compounds and high-density sipes are built for extra grip in bad weather. The tire also has two wide, high-tensile steel belts, nylon belt overlays, and bars that protect the rim.

Toyo recently expanded coverage of this highway-biased tire to include fitments for full-size Ford pickups, the Durango, and the 4Runner. The Open Country H/T was constructed for reduced tire noise on the open road as well as when commuting. Its multi-wave sipes and angled-tread blocks help reduce wear (and noise) and improve wet-weather performance. The OE-replacement tire is available for wheels 15 to 18 inches in diameter.
