Truck Trends' Best In Class 2007 Best Little Pickup

We've been doing our Best In Class Awards for six years now and based on the positive feedback, it has a lot of good buying information. Where else can you get such a comprehensive set of specifications all in one place, where you can instantly compare those specs, head-to-head, with their direct competitors? We've tapped into our vast driving experience with each one of these vehicles and made our selection based on the most significant criteria. Admittedly, we tend to lean toward bigger engines, larger towing capacities, and stronger bang-for-the-buck readings, so we don't expect our priorities to be an identical match to yours. That's why (in the past) we've listed all available chart information--fuel economy, passenger seating, and optional engine costs--on every vehicle.

Of course, getting that information often changes as fast as the information itself.

All pricing information presented here is from the most current edition of the 2007 Edition of the "Kelley Blue Book New Car Price Manual."

Best Little Pickup

Toyota Tacoma
A competitive segment every year and a choice that's usually full of spirited debate, the Tacoma probably offers the greatest bandwidth of the group and perhaps of any pickup truck--and it offers so many good flavors. The base four-cylinder engine is strong, and the 24-valve all aluminum 4.0-liter V-6 is something of a hidden power secret. The X-Runner rides like a modified (read stiffer frame) performance truck ready for race action, while the PreRunner is a 4x4-looking option package that saves the added cost of four-wheel drive. Don't even get us started on how solid and rugged the 4x4s are. No, it doesn't offer a V-8, but you can always get a dealer-installed supercharger from TRD and roll it into the monthly payments.
