Consumer Feature: Million-Dollar Hummer H1

Haulin' The Military

By G.R. Whale

The founder of a real-estate empire and military veteran paid $1,000,000 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale for a Hummer, which probably exceeds what even the Pentagon ever paid for one. The CNN Warrior Hummer was embedded in Iraq in 2003 with a CNN crew, and on its return went to the television series "Overhaulin." The diesel was swapped for a 450-horse 454 crate motor, the suspension lifted six inches, and standard-size 37-inch tires fitted on one-of-a-kind Foose wheels. Also, four airbrush artists put in 240 hours on the paint job, and the interior received custom leather, six monitors, and 7.5 kilowatts of Kicker audio. Since all proceeds went to the Fisher House Foundation charity, a Montana/North Dakota businessman added another $250,000.
