Former World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight champ Urijah Faber made news recently when an injury forced him to withdraw from what would have been his 135-pound bantamweight debut to fight Takeya Mizugaki on Aug. 18. But the California Kid is still psyched about the first-of-its-kind "Hometown Takedown" contest ending July 31, when the city with the most votes will be chosen to host a WEC fight in December.
While Faber's teammates from what might be one of the best names in sports -- Team Alpha Male -- are still on the Aug. 18 fight card, the WEC superstar took advantage of his downtime to talk about his cars and not-so-stellar early driving history with Truck Trend Online.
Despite all the rough-and-tumble Brazilian jujitsu moves and chokes that are part of his job, outside the cage this mixed martial arts fighter with rock-star looks likes to roll in a rather refined 2010 Mercedes-Benz E350. The E-Class sedan is his showiest ride thus far, and is itself an alpha on the road against other cars in its class. But Faber has always held the German marque in high regard.
"My mom had an old white Mercedes when I was growing up she called Grace. I think it was like a '63," Faber says. "So I've always had a soft spot for Mercedes."
Faber gives the newly purchased E350 a perfect rating. "I've never really been spoiled with cars, so it's a 10 in my book," he says. "It's got all the bells and whistles and it drives really smooth. It accelerates fast and gets pretty good gas mileage compared to my other car. It's pretty top-notch."
