Winner: Ford F-150 SuperCrew
Runner-Up: Toyota Tundra CrewMax This is the biggest pickup-truck category in Best In Class. The two-wheel-drive crew-cab configuration is one every truckmaker seems to build. This category includes compact/midsize trucks, half-tons, and heavy-duty models -- one competitor even is based on a version of a sport/utility platform. To narrow the field a bit, we restricted this award to half-tons and smaller. This is the segment of the market most light-duty truck buyers are going to consider, and having space in the cabin is just as important as having a decent-size truck bed and towing capacity. As with Truck of the Year, we compare each candidate with the rest of its competitive set to see which does the best job. That also levels the playing field, which is the only fair way we can look at compact/midsize and half-tons in the same category. The Ford F-150 SuperCrew wins this one again. You can choose from the innovative, hard-working EcoBoost, a good base V-6, and two terrific V-8s.
