Well, the sheets have been drawn from the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, so now we know what we'll be seeing in showrooms in the not-too-distant future. It's handsome and clean, clearly different from the global model, but definitely sharing some similarities with it. The cabin is much more upscale than the somewhat austere interior of the global model. As we expected, there is no regular cab. There's an extended and crew cab, with a choice of a 5- or 6-foot bed on each. Here's our scorecard on how closely we guessed on the new trucks features and attributes. On some, we'll have to wait and see as specifications are revealed at a future date.

Better Fuel Economy (Most Likely)

Honestly, we don't know. Fuel economy figures were not released, but we're expecting they'll be both better than the last-generation truck, as well as substantially better than a comparable Tacoma or Frontier. Diesel Engine Option (Yes, But Not Right Away)

As we hoped, the 2.8L Duramax I-4 will be offered as an option, but not until the 2016 model year. Chevrolet said it expects the diesel to be only about 10 percent of sales, so the 3.6-liter V-6 and 2.5-liter I-4 will get priority at launch. Both of them sound like decent mills that make respectable power for their class. Preliminary specs are 302 hp and 270 lb-ft for the V-6, and 193 hp and 184 lb-ft for the I-4. No solid power figures for the diesel yet, but we're sticking by our prediction of 185-plus hp and 350-plus lb-ft.

Manual Transmission Availability (No)

Unfortunately, as we expected, the 2015 Colorado will be automatics across the board. Simply put, automatics still represent the vast majority of sales, even in the midsize segment. We don't totally blame Chevy for going auto-only on the new Colorado, but we're a little disappointed that there's not a manual option, even on the bare-bones I-4 model. Chevrolet did say that, if it receives enough feedback for the desire for a manual, it might consider it.

Carlike Comfort (Wait and See)

Certainly, from first impressions, it looks like the Colorado will deliver on refinement, with triple-seal doors similar to the Silverado’s and a slick, sophisticated interior that looks a lot more contemporary than the Tacoma or Frontier cabins. As expected, MyLink is available, and if the Colorado is anything like the Silverado, expect it to have no shortage of USB inputs.

Value (Wait and See)

Pricing was not announced at the reveal, so we'll have to wait and see on this one. We expect the Colorado to be priced slightly higher than an equivalent Tacoma or Frontier, but not by much. GM is still coming from behind with this new model and knows if it's going to make conquest sales, it has to be in the same ballpark as the established players.

True Off-Road Model (Not Initially)

The Z71 is the top trim level on the Colorado, but we consider it just that, rather than a stand-alone model. Shock valving is unique to the Z71, but it doesn't have a substantially higher ride height or radically different suspension from the other models. We're not knocking the Z71, but just acknowledging it's not a hard-core off-roader. Could something with a little more of an edge be coming in the future? Who knows? A lot will depend on sales success, and customer and dealer demand. If Chevy hears from enough dealers and customers for a more deliberate off-road model or trim, it could happen. In the meantime, we'll just have to hope the aftermarket shows the new Colorado some love.
