idk if they are any good. everyone just gets the delete. the 7.3s are good but they don't produce the power they should. we had a 1990 f350 1 ton dually crew cab with it and I put it through hell. that thing started right up in the coldest weather we got and the block warmer stopped working. just a little gas to help prime it and it fired up. sounds like you guys need the more expensive thermostat orjust leave it out. the duramax is way better than a Cummins. they all have issues but the duramax doesn't have as many the power stroke or Cummins does. just have the injectors replaced and it will do fine

I could tell him to do a performance egr, are they any good? And so far our 5.9 hasn't blown a turbo*knock on wood* but I have heard tons of horror stories about blown turbos in Cummins. Ours has a thermostat issue where every 2 months it cracks a sea or sticks openl and we replace it and it happens again. Really annoying. Our friends have a 7.3 but it hasn't been the most reliable. I remember the engine was producing 50hp at one time because of a computer failure and another where it would pour out black smoke on idle and it won't start in the wet and/or cold. I still think Cummins are the more reliable diesels, I haven't heard much of the D-max's.

yeah. instead of doing the egr delete, hes better off just getting the perfomance egr that they have out. if you look at the way the turbos are mounted on the 3 you can see why the duramax and powerstroke spool up quicker. cummins has never really been to good with the turbos. they should just make a bigger V8 cummins and use it instead. the duramax has better take off power and its there. the only power srtoke i would ever get is the 7.3. those things are indestructible.

I knew that...don't know why I said that they didn't have DEF yet. Anyways, when the warranty is gone(pretty soon) he will do an EGR delete, straightpipe and chip it. It will be a monster. And yea I totally agree with Chev and Ford being better on fuel. Maybe its because the 6 cylinder needs a bigger turbo to produce similar power than V8's. Its like buying a turbo 4 instead of a V6. You'll probably get worse fuel economy on the turbo 4.

that is good. they already have the DEF on the Cummins. that weren't allowed to stay away from it. 11 is horrible. the fords and Chevy's do better on fuel empty and pulling. I think he needs to do some upgrades to help with fuel

For sure! I agree apart from our truck pulling a 11,000lb fifth wheel trailer in the rockies and we averaged 15(imperial)mpg. To me, thats fantastic! But my uncles 2010 Ram 3500 6.7 Cummins cant do 11mpg(imperial) unloaded on flat highway. Its awful on fuel. I hope they up the fuel economy in '15 when they add DEF.

Chevy's are good trucks. the rams are nice but they suck on fuel.

Very much stock next to a cold air and straight pipe on both our truck and neighbours truck. My dad is looking at a new one. He likes the new Rams but also likes the Chevs. I spoke too soon because I'm starting to like the new Chevs.

but is it all stock or do you have souped up and what not?

people are dumb these days. unlike ford and dodge who keep the same engine design, i think it was a good idea for GM to do that with the engines. more power and torque and better fuel economy

Our 5.9 Cummins has 720,000 miles on it. Neighbours across the road have a 1.2 million mile cummins. Maybe the newer cummins wont break a million but the 5.9's will probably do 2 mil

William Farrar
William Farrar

no they dont. they only do that if its taken care of right. we have a chevy with almost 500k miles on it. i know 2 people that have chevys and one has almost 1 million on his and its a duramax and the other has a 72 with 1.5 million on it.

Brandon Friesen

Nope. Still GM junk. Let me know when a NEWER silverado breaks 1 million miles. Cummins do it all the time.

Hey Andy please tell me why GM sold 5.7 Blue Prints to Toyota.. Why GM get read of the 6.0 gas engine and now has the 6.2.. Don't worry about what Ford does and what they do.. They still sell more units every year.. GM & Chrysler

A lot of ignorant people commenting before clicking the link provided. Watch and read a killer truck be brought to life. Much more reliable then a ford. Ford completely redesigns/engineers a V-8 seems about every 10-12 years for their truck line. While GM is still using the same technology since day one (pushrods) all they do is redesign for efficiency and power. Which in turn is called reliability. All my opinion.

They completely redesign a V-8 seems about every 10 years while GM has stuck with the same pushrod style setup just advancing and using more technology to pull the horsepower and torque. GM: great engineering and reliability.

Though I had a 2005 Sierra, I like the new Silverado's looks much better than this Sierra.  Now, when GM decides to put the 8 speed or the 9/10 speed in, they might have another customer.

That assembly line is amazing, but wish they were still assembling trucks in Oshawa.

I agree with John Chomiak I drive a 2009 Denali I love it but I'd buy a new Chevy now if I was to buy another new one.

I think the new Silverado looks better than the Sierra. Where as before it was the other way around !

They need to borrow more money from Obama to complete the POS.

you know what they say about Chevys. If there's no oil under it, there's no oil in it.
