Porsche Cayenne

Base Price: $50,000-$110,000
Body Type: SUV

What's New: The Cayenne gets a diesel engine, becoming the first oil-burning Porsche in the U.S. market. Motivated by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 that puts out 240 hp, it will slot in above the base Cayenne in the model's ever-expanding range. Porsche says the Cayenne Diesel can travel up to 740 miles on a single tank, and has a safeguard in the fuel tank filler that ensures the wrong type of gas doesn't enter the tank.

Cool Fact: The Cayenne was Motor Trend's 2011 Sport/Utility of the Year.

Sum Up: Now offered in five tasty flavors.

Porsche Macan (2014)

Base Price: $40,000-$50,000*
Body Type: SUV

What's New: Scheduled to arrive sometime in 2013 as a 2014 model, the Macan will be Porsche's sixth model. The compact crossover slots beneath the Cayenne and will initially be launched as a four-door. A two-door will follow. Loosely based on the Audi Q5's architecture, it will likely adopt a turbo 2.0L inline-four and a supercharged 3.0L V-6. A Macan Turbo is a good bet in the future.

Cool Fact: The name Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger.

Sum Up: Scaled-down Cayenne.

The V-6 comes standard with an 8A, which is optional with the 5.7L V-8 (the 4.7 can be had only with the 6A). What's New: There are no changes for the 2013 Ram C/V, Chrysler's Dodge Grand Caravan-based commercial van. It comes standard with solid panels where you would find windows on a minivan, though glass is optional. The Ram C/V is fitted with a commercial-tuned heavy-duty suspension, offers 144.4 cu-ft of interior storage, and is capable of hauling a 4x8-foot sheet of plywood.

Look For: A Ram-badged Fiat-sourced replacement in the near future.

Ram HD

Base Price: $30,000-$57,000*
Body Type: Pickup

What's New: 2013 will likely be a carryover year for the heavy-duty Ram 2500 HD and 3500 HD. Last year, the Ram HD got revisions to its optional Cummins turbodiesel I-6. Next year, the Ram HD lineup may receive a face-lift to match the one the 1500 gets this year. Revisions to its diesel powerplant and a more powerful base Hemi V-8 are likely in store as well.

Avoid: The Laramie Longhorn. Unless you live in Texas, the faux-cowboy theme is pretty tacky.

Sum Up: One heavy-duty hauler.
