Driver's Choice: The 2.5XT, powered by a turbocharged engine similar to that of the rally-rocket Impreza WRX.

Subaru Outback

Base Price: $24,270-$32,870
Body Type: SUV

What's New: Like the Legacy sedan, the Outback gets a minor face-lift for 2013 that includes a new grille, headlights, and bumper. The base 2.5L F-4 also gets paired to an updated (optional) CVT and a minor power bump to 173 hp, and becomes more efficient than before. Subaru's EyeSight active safety system has precollision braking, pedestrian detection, and more.

Best Buy: For efficiency, the base F-4 with a CVT. For performance, the 256-hp F-6.

Sum Up: Our 2010 Sport/Utility of the Year is still a solid pick.

Subaru Tribeca

Base Price: $33,500*
Body Type: SUV

What's New: Subaru has made few changes to the Tribeca, which reportedly will be canceled at the end of the year. This year, Subaru will only offer one Tribeca trim level, the previously mid-level Limited, meaning the Premium and Touring tims are no longer available. The only other change is the addition of a brake override safety system that allows the brake to cancel out the gas if both are pressed at the same time.

Best Buy: An Outback or other three-row SUV.

Sum Up: Subaru's forgotten crossover.

Subaru XV Crosstrek

Base Price: $21,995-$24,995

The XV will be offered in Premium and Limited trim levels and will provide amenities like Bluetooth, navigation, and a backup camera.

Suzuki Equator

Base Price: $24,000-$30,500*
Body Type: Pickup

What's New: The 2013 Suzuki Equator carries over with no changes. That means Suzuki's rebadged Nissan Frontier is still powered by a 152-hp, 2.5L I-4 or a 261-hp, 4.0L V-6. Both engines can be had in either a crew cab or extended cab configuration. Last year, Suzuki included electronic stability control as standard equipment on all Equator trim levels and added three new paint colors.

Cool Fact: The 7-year/100,000 powertrain warranty is best in segment.

Sum Up: The powertrain warranty makes the Equator an attractive choice.
