2014 Land Rover LR2

Base Price: $37,495

Body Type: Luxury Compact

UNCHANGED: The LR2 got the Evoque’s turbo 2.0L I-4 for 2013, replacing the unique but somewhat thirsty 3.2L I-6. Externally, not much has changed. Think of it as the Evoque’s less handsome, more practical older brother. A new LR2 (still called the Freelander in other markets) with Evoque-inspired styling is due soon, possibly for the 2015 model year. The current body style may get an upgrade to a ZF 9-speed automatic like the Evoque's.

Look For: A 9-speed automatic to improve fuel economy.

Sum Up: Evoque powertrain in a plainer, more practical wrapper.

2014 Land Rover LR4

Base Price: $50,595

Body Type: Luxury Full-size

UNCHANGED: Approaching the 5-year mark since its introduction, the LR4 is due for a comprehensive redesign soon. The LR4 is one of the most traditionally packaged SUVs in Land Rover’s U.S. lineup since the departure of the Defender, with a tall, boxy profile. The sole powertrain offered in the U.S. is now a 340-hp, supercharged 3.0L V-6 with an eight-speed automatic. Expect its successor to be sleeker and substantially lighter.

Look For: A new model coming soon.

Sum Up: Land Rover’s mainstream, midsize premium SUV.

2014 Land Rover Range Rover

Base Price: $83,545-$135,995

Body Type: Luxury Midsize

UNCHANGED: The Range Rover got a complete redesign in 2013, with an all-aluminum body resulting in a massive 500-800-pound weight loss. For 2014, a supercharged V-6 also found in the Jaguar XF, XJ, and F-Type replaces the naturally aspirated base V-8, sacrificing a bit in power for greater fuel economy. With the new V-6, EPA-rated fuel economy jumps by 3 mpg.

Look For: An extended wheelbase model to arrive in a couple years.

2014 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

Base Price: $41,995-$58,195

Body Type: Luxury Compact

MINOR: A new Pure entry-level model was added for 2013. Park assist and off-road navigation were added to last year’s model as well. The big news for 2014 is the addition of a 9A, increasing fuel economy and performance. Fuel economy ratings for the 2014 models are up to 21/30 mpg city/highway, higher than the current Evoque’s 20/28 mpg city/highway.

Avoid: Being surprised that Land Rover is considering an Evoque convertible.

The Range Rover Sport follows in the flagship’s footsteps with an aluminum body and chassis for a significant weight loss over its predecessor, and for the first time gets a third row, for seven-passenger capacity in a pinch. Base Price: $83,540

Body Type: Luxury Full-size

UNCHANGED: Lexus’ flagship SUV enters 2014 unchanged, save for two color changes: Silver Lining Metallic and Claret Mica replace Mercury Metallic and Noble Spinel Mica. (Makes you want to be a car color-namer, no?) Powered by a 383-hp, 5.7-liter V-8, the Japan-built, Toyota Land Cruiser-based LX comes standard with seating for eight passengers, full-time 4WD with Crawl Control, and a 7000-pound towing capacity.

The RX 450h receives a new bamboo interior trim option, and both variants add a Pre-Brake System to the Pre-Collision System.

2015 Lincoln MKC

Base Price: $33,995-$40,860

Body Type: Luxury Midsize

Lincoln claims the crossover will offer an unprecedented level of driver personalization and might use the EcoBoost 2.0-liter I-4 found in the MKZ. If Lincoln can keep the Escape’s sporty manners and add the luxury Lincoln buyers expect, this SUV will be a contender in the hotly contested class.

Look For: More accessories than Mini offers.

2014 Lincoln Navigator/L

Base Price: $56,945-$62,010

Body Type: Luxury Full-size

UNCHANGED: It won’t shock anyone to hear that the Navigator is yet again a carryover for 2014. The giant SUV has soldiered on for years with the same basic “size sells” formula. A single engine offering with outdated six-speed automatic is no longer enough for the category. A Ford Expedition in King Ranch trim provides similar luxury for $10,000 less on the sticker. Read about the new 2015 Lincoln Navigator HERE.
