I *love* reading all the responses here! Trucktrend editors must as well.  Before you go firing off about Ford going unibody on the next F150, look at the date on the article. April FIRST. What is April 1st commonly referred to...?

Well done, trucktrend, well done.

I am a strong Ford supporter but obviously someone is out of touch with Ford truck owners. I have a 2009 Ford F150 that I use to tow a 7000 lb travel trailer- the truck is rated to tow up to 8100 lbs.  The issue that many, including truck salesmen do not know is that tongue weight is THE MOST critical point to towing as it is subrtracted from the payload not the tow weight. My trailer has a 1000 lb tongue weight. In my current F150 with 1548 total payload rating.  That leaves 548lbs for equipment and people. Trailer and Boat owners won't have a choice but to buy another brand.  Honda trucks cannot haul such a load. I have been waiting for this truck to upgrade but if I confirm this, I will be looking at something else for the first time.

Wow what a waste. They had a unibody truck for a few months in 61. People tried to use them as trucks and they would warp and glass would break and all kinds of bad would happen. That is why for 61-63 you have mismatched beds - they scrambled to fix them and used an older bed. If folks want a truck and not use it as a real truck then they should have that option of just not using it - but to have very low payloads and hauling numbers just because "they" think people are not utilizing the truck is just stupid. If this has been the bestselling vehicle then that is about to change. PLUS the look of a mean burly truck with the "oh don’t put too much in the bed" mentality will be dishearting.  Since the robotics are so advanced they could have a REAL truck assembly line and then the "looks like a truck, but dont put too much in it .... may be a couch and a chair" truck assembly line.  I do agree to move forward but the other manufactures of trucks, REAL TRUCKS, are going to have a heyday with this for sure.  I have been a Ford guy all my life, currently own 2 and have owned several, my uncles raced them, my grandad was a ford guy and this is just terrible.

Maybe they can name it the Pinto Truck....or the Edsel Truck.

i bet their truck sale plummet too......the main reason people buy the f150 is because it is a goof work truck....if they wanted a honda they would buy honda....i know i wont be buying one and i will be in the market for a new truck around the time they come out......might just have to check out the ram 1500 diesel.....

Well you may remember that Mike Levine, the truck communications manager, who likely put out that story to you, was in charge of Pickuptrucks.com. Every year, he would do an April Fools joke. If you guys didn't make this up, he definitely did! :)
