A Systematic Approach
Edelbrock's Diesel Performance Systems for GM, Ford, and Dodge trucks include an Airaid air intake and filter, Superchips programmer module with three levels of performance upgrades, and Edelbrock diesel exhaust system, tuned by Edelbrock to work together. According to manufacturer tests on a 2006 6.6-liter Duramax Chevy, the DPS produced 419 horsepower and 717 pound-feet of torque, an improvement of 152 horsepower and 204 pound-feet over stock. Whether doing serious towing or producing major boost, you may need help keeping temps under control. B&M's SuperCoolers can cool engine or turbocharger oil, ATF, and differential or power-steering fluid. They're all-aluminum and offer an efficient stacked-plate design; they're also pressure-tested to 200 psi and tested against flying rocks and debris. B&M Racing & Performance Products; 818/882-6422.

The Super Max turbo kit for the 2001-2004 Duramax was engineered by BD and built by BorgWarner Turbo Systems' AirWerks program. The Super Max creates enough airflow for up to 550 rear-wheel horsepower at 45 pounds of boost on diesel (up to 675 rear-wheel horses with a shot of nitrous). Its efficiency reduces EGT, lowers emissions, and can improve fuel economy over the stock turbo in certain situations. The direct-replacement system is designed to deliver quick spool-up and improve airflow across the entire rpm range. BD Power; 800/887-5030.

Snow Performance's Stage-3 Diesel Boost Cooler is a water/methanol injection system reported to provide increases of 150 pound-feet of torque, improved fuel economy, and decreased exhaust temps. The key is atomization: The fluid is injected at more than 200 psi; a nozzle spins the fluid supersonically before forcing it through a venturi-shaped orifice. Controlled by a dash-mount Digital Variable Controller, it takes boost and exhaust gas temps into account in regulating injection. Snow Performance; 866/365-2762.
