One of the best parts about spreading a single engine through an automaker lineup is the ability to share components and their costs. Toyota's 4.0-liter V-6, coded 1GR-FE, is just one example, seeing duty in the 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser, Tacoma, and Tundra. And now available from ATI Performance Products are two Super Damper pulleys for the six-cylinder up to the 2009 model year.
The pulleys are found in either OEM or 10-percent underdriven size and come with laser-etched timing marks. In factory sizing, the ATI pulley helps soothe engine vibrations by assisting the balance shaft. The underdrive variant should help reduce engine drag and speed up throttle response, but won't directly affect power output and will likely require a slightly shorter serpentine belt too.
According to ATI, the pulleys exceed SFI 18.1 certifications. After 2009, the 1GR-FE was slightly revised for its current applications. Estimated Retail: $375 - $500.
