STRATTEC Security Corporation now offers BOLT Trailer Spare Tire Locks made to fit steel rim wheels to a studded mount. These locks don't come with their own key but are instead designed to match the vehicle's ignition key. STRATTEC says that they work with most GM, Ford, and Chrysler vehicles currently on the road.
The locks are programmed when drivers first insert their ignition key into the padlock cylinder. Once the key is in, the spring-loaded plate tumblers move around until they are matched exactly to that key. Once the key is rotated for the first time, the coding is permanently locked in and can't be changed. Price: $44.50
