2007 Truck & SUV Gear

Like New, But Better
Mopar has a new line of remanufactured heavy-duty transmissions designed with stronger, more durable components. Seen here is the Mopar Reman 48RE, which now includes a Kevlar reverse band that allows for higher torque capacity and a turbine stiffener plate that eliminates hub cracking. It also has a billet front cover. The 48RE is available for 2003-2006 Dodge Ram diesels. Mopar; 800/356-3490.

TieHook
The TieHook provides a new way to keep cargo in place--and does it more safely than bungee cords. It eliminates the need to tie complicated knots, too. The TieHook is a self-tightening rope cleat that can mount on any utility rack, bed rail, or bed system, and there's no racheting required. Once you've secured your gear with rope and have run it through the TieHook, it's secured in place until you want to retrieve it. TieHook; 415/462-0599.

Rack and Roll
The Access roll-up cover and rack combo allows truck owners to store gear under a tonneau while carrying more cargo on a rack mounted above the bed. The black powdercoated rack, made from extruded aluminum, has adjustable crossbars and flexible mounting points. The rack/cover combo is available for 2007 Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra short-, standard-, and longbed models. ACI; 866/414-5422.

Get Smart
TurnSmart mirrors have super-bright LEDs that blink in conjunction with your truck or SUV's turn signals, adding an extra way to alert drivers in blind spots. Each system comes with wireless, solar-powered left and right wide-angle side mirrors, plus an RF transmitter that operates the LEDs. The transmitter installs to the turn signal wires or a trailer wire harness and the kit includes twist-on connectors, zip ties, a cigarette-lighter charger, and a test light. The mirrors fit any vehicle. Auto Care Products, Inc.; 800/992-2018.

All-Access Pass
Tailgate ladders are no longer just for new Super Duty owners. The Truck-Pal makes it easy to get into and out of your truck's bed to access cargo, folding against the tailgate when not in use. The 6005A-T6 aluminum-alloy ladder, duty rated at 300 pounds, has hinges stamped from high-strength steel and plated with industrial-grade zinc. It mounts directly to the interior of a truck's tailgate and is hidden when folded. Truck-Pal; 800/368-1376.

HEALTHY INTAKE
Volant manufactures cool-air intakes for a wide variety of compact, midsize, and full-size diesel- and gas-powered trucks and SUVs, including a unit for the Toyota Tundra, seen here. The fluted, five-layer PowerCore filter provides 99.95 percent filtration. The intake is said to increase horsepower and airflow, and the filter is built to be maintenance-free for 75,000 miles. Volant's intakes are designed to bolt into the factory positions and filters also are sold separately. Volant Cool Air Intakes; 909/476-7225.
