American Suzuki Introduces the 2006 Grand Vitara

New Grand Vitara boasts V-6 power for improved on-road and off-road performance
Business Wire, Aug. 22, 2005

American Suzuki Motor Corp. unveiled its all-new 2006 Grand Vitara today in Vancouver, Canada. New from the ground up, in addition to its sleek styling, Suzuki promises its five-passenger SUV has a larger, more powerful standard V-6 engine, comprehensive safety features, and impressive on-road and off-road performance.

This rugged yet refined SUV -- the cornerstone of the '06 line-up -- is tailored to consumers' busy lifestyles. Whether it's a family trip to the beach, mountains or a daily commute to work, the new Grand Vitara has been designed and built with consumers' needs in mind.

Available this September, the new Grand Vitara offers consumers extra headroom and more front and rear legroom. The spacious interior boasts materials, fit-and-finish standards and safety and technology features usually found only in vehicles that cost thousands more. From standard front and rear side-curtain airbags to the available SmartPass keyless entry and start system, the 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara reaches a new level of sophistication in this market segment.

Also new for 2006 are two available four-wheel-drive options: a full-time single-mode four-wheel-drive system and a full-time four-mode four-wheel-drive system. All Grand Vitara models feature a new lightweight, yet rigid unibody construction enhanced with a built-in ladder frame to offer the best of both worlds -- a refined on-road ride and rugged off-road performance. As with all 2006 Suzuki automobiles, the Grand Vitara adventure is backed by what Suzuki calls "America's #1 Warranty."

The Grand Vitara also features large, front ventilated disc brakes with rear drum brakes and power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering. Plus, every Grand Vitara model is fitted with an anti-lock brake system with electronic brake-force distribution and Electronic Stability Program.

The standard 2.7-liter, six-cylinder, 24-valve DOHC engine delivers 185 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine gives the Grand Vitara an improved tow rating of 3,000 pounds -- enough to haul light recreational boats, personal watercraft or motorcycles.

The interior of the all-new 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara is functional and attractive. The list of standard features includes air conditioning with automatic climate control and micron air-filtration system, cruise control, digital clock with outside temperature and fuel consumption indicators and adjustable center armrest with internal storage. The standard sound system features an AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA unit that is XM Satellite Radio-ready and features steering-wheel-mounted controls.
