Honda Releases 2010 Accord Crosstour Photos and Drivetrain Details

The first time Honda released photos of the new Accord Crosstour...thing, it didn't go so well. Now, the Big H has revealed several more shots of the car out in the wild and included the first photos of the interior for our dissection, along with a few drivetrain details.

The big news, of course, is the interior. If you hadn't guessed by the "Accord Crosstour" name, this vehicle is something of a cross between an Accord, a wagon and a crossover and predictably, it has an Accord interior. Everything we can see is roughly the same as the venerable Accord sedan, save for the Fit/Insight-sourced steering wheel. In all, it's a very conservative interior for such a controversial exterior, to say the least. On the other hand, the reversible floor mats with carpet on one side and all-weather rubber on the other are a neat trick.

More interesting is the rear cargo area. The first thing to catch our eye are the surprisingly large wheel wells that eat into a good deal of the cargo space, calling the Accord Crosstour's hauling credentials and advantages over a sedan into question. Odd layout aside, we're impressed with the surprisingly large under-floor, removable cargo box and the slick rear-seat folding system, which puts a lever in the D-Pillar right near the hatch that releases and folds the rear seats without any awkward climbs into the cargo or rear-seat areas.

Also of interest are the first details on the powertrain. By the looks of it, the Accord Crosstour isn't likely to be a featherweight, so we're pleased to hear that Honda will be offering it standard with a 3.5L V-6. While Honda won't say much about it, it's safe to assume it will be the same 268-hp mill with 248 lb-ft of torque found in the Accord sedan. It's more than likely that it will also get the Accord sedan's five-speed automatic gearbox and Honda has assured us that AWD will be optional.

When Honda first put photos of the Accord Crosstour on its own Facebook page, the reception was less than cordial. Obviously stung by the keyboard-lashing they were receiving, Honda shrugged off criticism of the unconventional styling as the product of poor-quality photos that didn't show enough detail. Now that you've seen more of the exterior and had a look at the interior, what do you think? Was Honda right about the bad photos, or is the camera the least of its worries?
