Toyota will soon be resuming its second shift at its San Antonio, Texas, plant, where the Tundra is currently built. The idled shift is expected to restart in February and would be back at work for the first time since August 2008.
The Texas facility is currently home to about 2000 employees who will be joined by about 850 additional full-time and temporary workers. The boost in production is in response to sub-45-day inventory levels and the incoming Tacoma. Displaced from the soon-to-shutter NUMMI plant in California, the Tacoma is scheduled to begin production at San Antonio in July 2010.Source: Automotive News (Subscription required)
