Auto News: Hummer Adds the H3X

X-Rated Hummer

Every Hummer H3 gets a new 3.7-liter version of GM's DOHC inline-five truck engine that's rated at 242 horsepower. But while that bump in power should quiet some (but not all) critics who found the H3 somewhat laggardly in the acceleration, it does nothing to answer those who thought the truck-based SUV was, well, austere. For them, Hummer has introduced the new H3X that adds some flash to the vehicle's newfound sorta-dash. Every H3X has a leather interior and the big Monsoon stereo system installed and then gets chrome tubular side steps, chrome crossbows for the roof rack, a body-color grille, unique wheels, and such interesting trim items as a chrome fuel-filler door. Hey, the guys on the Rubicon Trail will really think you're hard-core when they see that! The H3X also comes in two unique colors, Sonoma Red Metallic and Desert Orange Metallic, and is available with 18-inch wheels and tires. Okay, so there's nothing about the H3X that adds to Hummer's quest for a reputation of authentic off-road prowess. But some of us like chrome...and you know who you are.

The H3X is on sale now.
