You can be forgiven for not having heard of EDAG before. Despite a reference list that reads like a "who's who" of the automotive industry, this German engineering firm has thus far managed to stay mostly out of the limelight.
Things could change at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show where EDAG will debut its latest SUT concept, the EDAG LUV (left). Looking altogether like a reworked Honda Ridgeline (below), the LUV (the name is derived from a German sailing term) is said to feature strong nautical themes such as oiled teak flooring and trim, as well as a rear bed designed to resemble a boat's quarter deck.
If the LUV is based on a Ridgeline (EDAG doesn't specifically say what the concept's origin is) there are some design features that stand out. The rear flying buttresses are longer and smoother than the Ridgeline's, helping to integrate the rear of the truck with the passenger compartment. The head lamps, tail lamps, and door handles have been restyled, and the rear passenger three-quarter window has been extended rearward. Front and rear bumpers are also redesigned for a smooth, sporty appearance as are the fenders.
EDAG says the LUV should appeal to drivers looking for a vehicle outside of the norm and is exploring production opportunities. If EDAG can keep their concept economical, one of their key goals, they could have a limited-production winner.
