Auto News: Yee Haw! The Dukes of Hazzard Video

March 13, 2007

It's not likely you'll ever see a Hazzard flick taking home statues at the Academy Awards. But that's OK. Any movie with flying and/or crashing cars, attractive young women wearing famously cut-off jeans, and a truckload of puerile humor is OK by us, no matter its lack of Oscar-ability. If you liked the last one, get ready, because here comes a new one.

Dukes Of Hazzard The Beginning Box Art

Warner Premiere, the direct-to-DVD production arm for Warner Bros. Entertainment, and the Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group rev up the old General Lee one more time to deliver The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning, the direct-to-DVD prequel to the hit 2005 theatrical release starring Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott and Jessica Simpson. Taking its cue from the fun, sexy, and oh-so-70s Dukes comedy that was first brought to life in the TV series, both the R-Rated and Unrated versions of The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning are on sale March 13, 2007. For those interested in seeing a bit more of the wilder side of Hazzard, the Unrated version is loaded with appropriately raunchy additional scenes and materials. Both versions retail for $27.99

The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning features Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls, Cheaper by the Dozen) as Bo Duke, Randy Wayne (ABC's Sons and Daughters) as Luke Duke, and April Scott (Entourage, and formerly of Deal or No Deal) as Daisy Duke. Country legend Willie Nelson returns from the 2005 cast to reprise his role as Uncle Jesse.

We could tell you about the plot, but it really doesn't matter. You'll want it for the car stunts, burnouts, crashes, and yes, the chicks. The buzz is that one of the elements that made this movie possible was a number of General Lee Charger stunt cars leftover from the 2005 Dukes film. We won't give the whole thing away, but suffice it to say there are now a few less of them.

You can play the trailer here at Motor Trend Online. The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning is available at your favorite purveyor of DVDs, or direct from Warner Home Video at whv.warnerbros.com.
