Whether you enjoy soaking up the sun, getting a sneak peek at hot concept and specialty cars and trucks, hanging out with NASCAR's finest 200 mph race cars, enjoying a brilliant fireworks display, or kicking back to the sounds of electrifying live entertainment, Chevrolet and the City Of Houston have sizzling plans in store at "Chevy's Freedom Over Texas" on July 4 at Eleanor Tinsley Park.
"This year's 'Chevy's Freedom Over Texas' extravaganza is guaranteed to offer fun for the entire family, and the Texas Chevy Dealers are proud to partner up with the City of Houston for our fourth consecutive year to celebrate Independence Day in a spectacular way," said Jay Allen, Chevrolet marketing manager for GM's South Central region.
Festival go-ers can experience a mini auto-show presented by Chevrolet showcasing some of the hottest cars and trucks of today, as well as dazzling concepts like the sensational Camaro and the towering Cheyenne truck, and even some specialty vehicles like the revved up Dale Jr. Silverado. This show-stopping, high-performance concept Camaro will be making its first trip to Houston for Chevy's Freedom Over Texas celebration.
For race fans, Chevrolet is also bringing out the big guns with NASCAR show cars from the stables of two-time Nextel Cup Champion Tony Stewart, 2006 Nextel Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson, 2007 Daytona 500 Winner, Kevin Harvick and crowd favorite, Dale Earnhart, Jr.
Chevrolet's display, which is free to the general public, will also include the National Fishing Boat Simulator, E-85 FlexFuel vehicles and more. Throughout the afternoon, festival-goers can explore Chevy's Liberty Park, which will showcase displays of military artifacts and vehicles including tanks and apache helicopters, voting booth demonstrations and the Printing Museum of History.
The main stage at Chevy's Freedom Over Texas will be headlined by the award-winning country duo of Montgomery Gentry. Featuring Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry, the duo was founded in the 1990s. Before they became a duo, Troy and Eddie sang with Eddie's younger brother, John Michael Montgomery. John later decided to pursue a solo career, while Eddie and Troy formed Montgomery Gentry. They have received many awards over the years including ACM Top New Vocal Duet/Group in 1999, and both CMA Vocal Duo of the Year and CCMA SOCAN Song of the Year in 2000. They released their most recent album, "Some People Change," in October 2006.
Opening for Montgomery Gentry is Texas-native country music group, the Randy Rogers Band, who will perform songs from their newest album "Just a Matter of Time," as well as other hits.
GRAMMY Award-winning R&B vocalist, Regina Belle, known for songs such as "Fly Me To The Moon," "If I Ruled The World," and "Try A Little Tenderness," will also perform on the Chevy Freedom Stage. Native Houstonian Robyn Troup, who performed with Justin Timberlake on the live telecast of the 49th Annual GRAMMY Awards, will sing the national anthem.
When the concert comes to a close at approximately 9:30 p.m., eyes will turn skyward for an extraordinary fireworks display. Perfectly set to a selection of America's favorite tunes, from patriotic songs to rock 'n' roll hits to classic bestsellers, this year's show is the city's largest to date.
Chevy's Freedom Over Texas will begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. Admission for the festival, which benefits the Central Houston Civic Improvement, Inc., is $6.00 at the gate for adults; children under 10 are free.
