Auto News: Goodyear's 'Newest' Wrangler Is Familiar Name

October 10, 2007

Some companies tout products that are "new and improved." With a key product focus at its 2007 Dealer Conference, Goodyear applies that tag to its Wrangler SR-A tire, but broadens the description to include "expanded," too.

Long a popular original equipment choice among manufacturers of pickups and SUVs, the Wrangler SR-A now is growing as a replacement tire with the addition of 25 more sizes during 2007. The tire becomes available for many fitments, such as the Chevrolet Avalanche, Dodge Durango, Ford Escape, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nissan Titan, Toyota Tacoma and more. The size extension is due this fall.

The rugged, all-season tire provides confident traction, a quiet ride and all-terrain capabilities for trucks and SUVs. It carries a 50,000-mile tread life limited warranty on all P-metric sizes.

Along with the significant size extension - growing from its existing OE-driven lineup of 15 sizes - the new Wrangler SR-A also gets a technology makeover. This includes:

• Goodyear's exclusive WetTrac Technology, which helps provide enhanced traction on wet roads. Wide circumferential grooves for water evacuation and zig-zag micro-grooves in the tread help create biting edges for grip on wet roads.

• Grooves with multiple traction notches on the interior ribs, for enhanced traction in soft soil, mud and snow.

• A computer-optimized contact patch, to help provide even wear throughout the life of the tire.

• An updated, contemporary serrated sidewall, which complements the look of the vehicle.

"Many consumers have experienced the performance of the Wrangler SR-A through its years as a common fitment on new trucks and SUVs," said Melissa Montisano, Goodyear's general marketing manager for light-truck tires. "This expansion of the product creates an opportunity for both consumers and our network of retailers to see the benefits."
