2008 Toyota 4Runner Urban Runner package makes Chicago debut

By Rory Jurnecka

Toyota has released a new trim package for the 2008 Toyota 4Runner at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, aimed at adding style and luxury to its popular mid-size SUV.

The Urban Runner package, as it is called, features numerous exterior enhancements, including 18-inch six-spoke aluminum alloy wheels, a unique rear spoiler, body-color front grille, special Urban Runner badging, XREAS Sport Enhanced Suspension badging, chrome exhaust tips, and black-painted tubular side steps and roof rack. Three exterior colors will be available: Black, Titanium, and Blizzard Pearl.

The interior hasn't been neglected either, with a new six-speaker audio system and integrated Tom Tom navigation unit -- featured for the first time on a Toyota. Bluetooth wireless integration, stone Alcantara seats with dark charcoal bolsters with power adjustment, a leather-trimmed shift knob and multifunction steering wheel, chrome door handles, and black wood-grain-style interior trim are also featured.

The 2008 Toyota 4Runner Urban Runner will arrive in showrooms starting this month, and initially the special package will only be available on Sport Edition 4WD V-6 models. A 2WD version will be available in April. The Urban Runner package will add $1,760 to the Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition 4WD V6's base price of $32,600, making it one of the more value-conscious packages available in today's automotive market.
