Name that Sport Truck: Winner gets new Pontiac

March 17, 2008

"Sport Truck," or ST, is just a placeholder. It's the generic name for the El Camino-style 2010 Pontiac G8 variant based off the Holden Ute. Try saying "Ute," as the vehicle's known in Australia, over here without sounding like Joe Pesci describing a young person in "My Cousin Vinny." GM is holding an online contest at www.pontiac.com/namethiscar to pick a name. The winning name will be announced on April 15.

Only one person will be announced as the winner of the newest Pontiac's name game. The lucky winner will win one of the new vehicles, but they'll have to wait a while, as it won't be available in the U.S. until later in 2009. You can read about and see more photos of the new Pontiac BY CLICKING HERE, and be sure to come back to MotorTrend.com on March 19 for more on the vehicle during our live coverage of the New York auto show.

So, while stuffing the ballot box with, say, El Camino, or, heck, even Caballero, could influence GM's decision, it's probably not too likely that they'd go back to the brand well to resurrect the name for the Chevy and GMC two door, truck bed, rear-drivers that still cruise U.S. streets.
