Volvo Turbocharges XC70 wagon for 2009

March 21, 2008

By Zach Gale

During our 2008 Car of the Year testing, we noted that the naturally-aspirated 3.2-liter inline six was "just powerful enough" to motivate the Volvo XC70 crossover/wagon. For those Volvo enthusiasts in a bigger hurry, the T6 model has arrived for the 2009 model year.

The 2009 XC70 T6 gets its power from a turbocharged 3.0-liter six that produces 281 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque available from 1500 "all the way up the rev range," Volvo says. These figures represent an improvement of 46 horsepower and 59 lb-ft of torque, good for moving all those "don't I look like an SUV" exterior accessories around.

A six-speed automatic with manumatic shifting is mated to the T6 engine and, as before, AWD is standard. We're pretty sure the T6 engine will make it to the more attractive V70 wagon.
