IIHS tests: Chrysler and Dodge minivans pass 2 out of 3

May 23, 2008

By Zach Gale

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has finished safety testing the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country / Dodge Grand Caravan twins and the results are, for the most part, good.

The two vans achieved a rating of good -- the highest rating available -- for frontal offset and side crashworthiness tests. When the two vans were put through the rear crash protection tests, though, they only managed an overall score of marginal, which is above poor but under acceptable and good.

For comparison, the IIHS determined that a 2008 Honda Odyssey earned good ratings in frontal, side, and rear crash test results while a 2005-2008 Nissan Quest received good ratings for frontal and side tests, but a poor for the rear test.
