Updated versions of Nissan's 2009 Xterra and Frontier models will hit dealerships this summer. Both models feature slightly tweaked exterior and interior designs along with upgraded performance packages.

The 2009 Xterra features a restyled front end and wheel designs, as well as available roof mounted off-road lights available on the Off-Road trim level. Side impact airbags and new seat materials are now standard equipment, and the interior's center stack has been updated.

The current vehicle's 4.0-liter V-6 producing 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque will carryover into the 2009 model. Two and four-wheel drive versions of the Xterra will be offered with either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.

As a sales incentive, Nissan will offer its Technology Package complete with Rockford Fosgate audio system, XM Satellite Radio and Bluetooth phone system at no extra charge on S, Off-Road and XE trim levels for a limited time when the 2009 Xterra goes on sale beginning in July. An X Gear Package (S and SE models only) with roof rack crossbars, fog lights, first aid kit, cargo net and gear basket, is also available.

Nissan's mid-size Frontier pickup's powertrain options will also be a carryover, available with the same 4.0-liter V-6 used by the Xterra or a smaller 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 152 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque.

The truck's front fascia has been updated, as have the grille and headlight housings on both the Crew and King Cab version. New 16 and 18-inch wheels were redesigned specifically for Frontier. Two new exterior paints -- Red Brick and Navy Blue -- have been added to the available color schemes (available for the Xterra as well). The interior also features enhancements similar to those found on the Xterra.

Nissan is looking to give Frontier customers more for their money and will be offering the Pro-4X off-road package at a lowered price. The package consists of uprated Bilstein shocks absorbers, undercarriage skid protection plates, limited-slip differential and rear differential locker.

The 2009 Xterra and Frontier will arrive at dealerships beginning this July, with official pricing to be released shortly.
