Suzuki Motors will not attend next year's North American International Auto Show held in Detroit, Michigan, citing limited space constraints as the deciding factor.

Last year, Porsche North America failed to attend the show as well, but stated the lack of significant customer base for its reasoning.

Suzuki spokesman Jeff Holland said the automaker's display needs weren't able to be accommodated within the given area at Detroit's Cobo Convention Center. Other cities, according to Holland, will be able to provide space large enough to handle their active displays.

During a recent interview with MT Online, Suzuki product public relations manager David Boldt mentioned that as a smaller automaker, the strict allocation of limited resources combined with the given space constraints were carefully weighed in the company's final decision. "We found it best for our display and communication strategies to focus our efforts on other shows around the nation." What show Suzuki is tapping for its majority U.S. presence was not disclosed.

Executive director of the show Rod Alberts admitted there's definitely a space problem at the Cobo Center in Detroit and that "its time for some expansion." In fact, plans are currently underway for a revised Cobo floor plan. "Some meetings are taking place and some legislation introduced in Lansing," Alberts revealed.
