To combat spikes in the cost of raw materials like steel, Toyota is upping the prices on 17 Toyota, Scion, and Lexus models. The average MSRP increase for the 13 Toyota and Scion models is $181, or 0.81 percent. All Toyota vehicles are now subject to delivery, processing, and handling fees up $60 from before (that's $720 on passenger cars, $745 on light trucks). Fees increase $50 on Scion vehicles to $670 and Lexus fees stay the same.
The 2009 FJ Cruiser's increase of $275, or 1.1 percent, helps defray the costs of making new driver and front passenger active headrests, roll-sensing curtain airbags, a VSC cut-off switch, and front map light standard equipment. Three new colors -- black, silver, and Iceberg White -- are available.
The biggest price increase, though, was announced last month on the 2009 Toyota Tacoma. The average price on a Tacoma increased $1104, or 5.1 percent, over 2008 Tacoma prices.
Other models with newly announced price increases include the 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser, 2009 Toyota 4Runner, 2009 Toyota Highlander, 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, 2009 Toyota Sienna, 2009 Toyota Corolla, 2009 Toyota Matrix, 2009 Scion xD, 2009 Lexus SC430, 2009 Lexus LX570, 2009 Lexus GX470, 2009 Lexus RX350, and 2008 Lexus RX400h. As we noted a month ago, Carlos Ghosn said Nissan may not raise prices until Toyota does. Now that Toyota's prices are up, how long will it be until Nissan raises MSRPs across its lineup?
