Amidst all the humdrum of fuel prices and epic losses, General Motors' Lambda-based family of crossovers successfully have garnered the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick 2008 with the highest performance ratings in frontal, side and rear impacts.

The group consisting of the GMC Arcadia, Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook and yet to be released Chevrolet Traverse, all utilize the same GM Stabilitrak and electronic stability control system that aid in the prevention of traffic collisions.

"The Acadia aced our front, side, and rear crash tests," says Institute president Adrian Lund. "While affording buyers state-of-the-art crash protection, the Acadia also includes standard electronic stability control, which safety research shows can help keep drivers out of some crashes altogether."

In addition, the five attained the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program's five-star rating for driver and front passenger front crash test safety, as well as driver and rear passenger safety in a side impact.
