With diesel cars getting another run in the United States, including California, Volkswagen is finally offering its 3.0L V-6 TDI for its Touareg SUV. VW will start with its introduction at the L.A. Auto Show in November. The smaller displacement of the V-6 will give the Touareg line a better balance with the new V-6 and the currently available V-10 diesel in the Touareg V10 TDI.
The V-6 TDI which will be used in the Touareg is not a new engine, but this will be the first time the engine is used on a Touareg in the United States. The engine puts out 240-hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Detailed specifications for the Touareg V-6 TDI will most likely be available at November's auto show. Pricing is expected to be significantly lower than the European Touareg's price tag at 50,000 ($77,000), since the $77,000 would be the price of the top-of-the-line U.S. Touareg V10 TDI. Currently, about 80% of Touareg sales in Europe are of the diesel version.
