Molded off an iconic off-road figure, the FJ Cruiser blends a modern SUV package with the historic legacy of Toyota's FJ40 off-roaders. New for 2009 will be three new exterior colors: Black, Silver Fresco Metallic, and Iceberg (white).
The new safety features added to the FJ Cruiser include roll-sensing side curtain airbags and active headsets for the front seats. The active headsets help to limit passenger head movement in the case of certain rear collisions through a cable-actuated mechanism. The roll-sensing side curtain airbags can detect a rollover and will signal the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to assist; the rollover sense also can signal for deployment of the standard seat-mounted and curtain side airbags.
Still standard for safety features on the FJ Cruiser are dual-stage front-driver and passenger-side airbags. The vehicle also is equipped with Toyota's STAR Safety System, which includes VSC, Traction Control, Antilock Brake System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and Brake Assist.
