Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC diesel lineup gets IRS tax credit approval up to $1,800

Septemebr 17, 2008
By Nate Martinez

Daimler recently achieved IRS tax-break status with its upcoming new lineup of 50-state-legal Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC clean diesels capable of attaining 600 miles on one tank of fuel. The tax breaks of up to $1800 are a first for any diesel vehicles in the country. Buyers of the ML 320 BlueTEC, R 320 BlueTEC and GL 320 BlueTEC are eligible for the breaks when the vehicles go on sale October 1.

Prior to the IRS approval, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved the cars as ultra-low emission and high-fuel-efficient vehicles. So far, only hybrid-electric cars have qualified for the tax breaks.

Here's the tax break listing for buyers of the particular BlueTEC models:

ML 320 BlueTEC -- up to $900 tax credit
R 320 BlueTEC -- up to $1550 tax credit
GL 320 BlueTEC -- up to $1800 tax credit

All values are dependent on an owner's individual tax status.
