The Texas Auto Writers Association recently recognized Ford's new 2009 F-150 pickup as the "Truck of Texas," an annual award that has been won by a Ford truck for the sixth consecutive year. The award is a part of the TAWA Texas Truck Rodeo held every year. The "Truck of Texas" recognizes the importance of an all-around package, as according to Harold Gunn, president of TAWA. "It's not just about how the horse feels being towed, but how your butt feels sitting in the truck, too."
For 2009, the F-150 offered an average of 8% improvement for fuel economy across its lineup. The fuel economy increases as much as 12% for certain models equipped with the high-volume three-valve, 5.4L V-8 engine. The fuel economy is as good as 15 city/20 highway for a combined fuel economy of 17 mpg for F-150 models equipped with the 4.6L V-8 engine, six-speed automatic transmission, and two-wheel drive. On top of increased fuel economy, the F-150 also delivers a towing capability of 11,300 lb and hauling capacity of 3030 lb, the best in its class.
In addition to providing the best pickup truck for Texans, Ford also won the other categories of the TAWA Texas Truck Rodeo. The 2009 Ford F-150 King Ranch won the best luxury pickup award, while the 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty Cabela's Edition won the best heavy-duty pickup.
