The first prototype of Acura's 2010 crossover was spotted outside of the United States, and it was spied at the premier automotive proving grounds at the famous Nurburgring. Affectionately dubbed "The Ring," the test track is used as the benchmark for serious performance vehicles, and the fact that the crossover is being tested in Germany could indicate an eventual European launch for Acura, similar to the way Nissan recently launched its upscale brand Infiniti.
The Acura crossover is likely to use Honda's new V-8 engine, still in the works and expected to be introduced within the next 18 months. Another engine option would be the current 3.7L V-6. Honda's Super-Handling AWD system would also likely be standard on the new SUV. The exterior profile of the crossover will be similar to the BMW X6, with a low roofline giving it a coupelike appearance. The X6 has been perceived as a primary competitor for the Acura crossover.
On top of its new crossover SUV, Acura is looking to introduce a new coupe and supercar to its lineup to complement its current sedans and SUVs, and soon the new crossover.
